Live life for you

Nothing for me was further than the truth until about a week ago. The introduction to Vanessa's Channel really hit home for me. She made it clear to me that no matter if we have kids, a hubby, parents who need us, or what have you, you are supposed to live life for you and you alone.

I really spent some time thinking about these words and relating them to my own life. I can't entirely live life for myself because I have small children that depend on me for their needs. I can however, take my life and live it the best I can and be the best me I can be. I can learn to accept that things can change and that I have to change with them. I don't want to be the mom that can't do things because she is afraid of what others will think or say. I want to be right there with my kids as they ride that ride or go through the funhouse. I want to be that mom that runs and laughs and plays. The only way this is going to happen is if I MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Consider this a revelation or what have you, but it means more to me than any of you, that I have been proverbially cracked open. I can finally see myself again, and it has been a long time for that. I can make those goals and reach them, and if something happens along the way to knock off track, then I won't stop. I will pick myself up and keep going.

Epiphany

It just hit me, that for the last several years, I've been wearing makeup to hide the me inside. I would get the compliments on my eyeshadow almost every day. I would blush and say thank you and go about my day. I never gave it much thought that those people were looking at me!

I wore that makeup to hide the blemishes, to hide the overly red cheeks, the short eyelashes, the double chin, the me! I mean of course I loved to experiment with the blending of colors and I LOVED the shopping to buy it. Never once did I ask myself why. Why would I want to cover up and hide behind a mask. That is not to say that I threw all my makeup away. ( that would be CRAZY!)

I have found that since I started losing the weight, I have less need to hide behind some mask in a bottle, jar, or tube. I sweat more, so I wear less. The less I wear the more compliments I hear from my hubby, and that makes me feel like doing more to wear even less.

No one is perfect, no one is flawless, but then again, no one loves me more than I love me and that's all that matters. I'm doing the best I can for the only me I have. I'm taking a stand to say I'M HERE WORLD, AND YOU BETTER DEAL WITH IT!

I want my kids to know that beauty is both on the outside AND the inside. I want them to know that just because a person is pretty doesn't make them a beautiful person. I want them to know that it's ok to have red cheeks or squinty eyes, bushy eyebrows or thin lips. It's ok to be you, because after all, you have to be the best you you can be!

Going in a new direction

It has been a long time since you have heard from me. Granted most of you continued along with your daily lives not giving me much thought, and that is great! Lately I have been taking my New Year's Resolution seriously ( does anyone else even remember what theirs was).

Now several of you may be asking just what that is. Well, like most people they make a resolution to either quit smoking, lose weight, or spend more time with the ones they love. You could say that I've actually been working on all 3. The quitting smoking is a tough one as some stressful situations have come into play the last month or so.

I've been spending more time with my kids, less time at school (scheduling problems) or work (which I recently quit to spend more time with my kids). We spend more time as a family doing the little things, like going for walks and playing games and reading bedtime stories. We spend less time watching TV and surfing the web. We make time for us, because after all, the us is important.

Losing weight is it's own battle. I had to start somewhere, so I started with SparkPeople. It's a free website geared toward making small goals and sticking with those goals. They have a point tracker which is a great thing for me. It rewards me for entering in what I eat, my physical activity, and reading articles on healthy living.

SparkPeople is fantastic! It connects you with people trying to achieve the same goals. Those people help each other, motivate each other, and answer your questions. They never put you down or make you feel guilty for caving in to that cookie (or let's face it, the whole box). This being said, small goals, motivation, and the right tools can help anyone achieve their dream of losing weight and getting in shape.

After all, there is some small part of each of us that wants to continue what we set out to do. Yes, we get sidetracked, but getting back on track is what saves us. Setting even a daily goal like say, drinking 8 glasses of water, can lead to a big change. Just ask my scale where that 10 lbs vanished. Then ask my lungs what that pack of cigarettes less a week has helped me accomplish. Finally, ask my kids when storytime is and they will likely say, "Right now!"

Why it's importnat to tell your Cosmetologist EVERYTHING!

As a cosmetology student, I have come to realize, telling your cosmetologist everything about your hair is important. I'm talking everything! From past tints and colors to perms, shampoos, and conditioners and even if you are pregnant. Yes you read that right.

Pregnancy really takes a toll on your body, your hair included. Even certain chemical services should be avoided during the first or second trimesters. Bleach should never touch the scalp of a pregnant customer due to hypersensitivity issues. Further more, due to increased circulation during pregnancy, there is a greater chance of chemicals entering the blood stream through the scalp.

This is not to say that pregnant consumers should never receive chemical services. All that is need is to take extra precautions and be diligent when having services preformed. If something doesn't seem right, or your scalp starts to tingle or burn, let your cosmetologist know so they can take further steps to keep you and your unborn safe!

Another thing, cosmetologists can preform certain test on your hair to look for the use of certain products. Please, save us the hassle, just tell us what you have done to your hair lately. Depending on the length of your hair this could be a couple months to several years. We assume the longer the hair, the more history it has.

Know your hair. Consumer knowledge will save everyone lots of headaches. If you know that your hair has been permed or relaxed using ammonium thioglycolate, then tell us. Some chemical products are just not compatible with others. We would like you to leave our chair with the same, albeit more beautiful, hair that you came it with.

In short, the more you know about your hair and it's history, the better of your cosmetologist is as well. Save them time and yourself money, by knowing what is going on above your brows!

The Beauties of School

So, most of you know that I started going back to school recently. Well, I have to say that I am loving it! Just yesterday, I passed my first test (100% - Go me!) and got an hour facial and an hour credit for that facial! =) Totally loving that! And on top of that, the day teacher was there, so we got to leave an hour early! Where else can you go, get your nails or hair done(not that I got that done yet!), pass a test, and get a facial? I think I have to say That I am really loving school!

I will let you know more as I get further on down the road! =) For now I am just going to sit back and enjoy the ride! =)

Random Hauls

I can't Wait

I went and checked out the school that I want to go to, and I start this coming Monday! I can't wait! I am so excited! After 60 hrs then I get my kit! So for the schedule I'm on, in a month or so! But still not bad! If I just go the hours that I am scheduled then I will graduate in Dec. 2010. I plan on trying to take a few extra classes here and there. OMG Still so excited! I love it!

The Awfulness of the Unibrow!

My friend and I were just having a discussion about one of my precious blog entries, when she mentioned the Unibrow. I thought it such a great topic, that I had to blog about it. So here ya go!

The Awfulness of the UNIBROW!

Ok, Seriously now, do you really need to think so hard that your brows grow together? The are called eyebrows for a reason! There should be like ya know, two!

If you see someone committing this fashion atrocity, then please, hand them a brow shaper, a razor, some wax, SOMETHING! Keep the world a little more beautiful, alert those that don't look in a mirror!

Ok, but on a serious note, there really should be two eyebrows. No person looks good with a unibrow, although the unibrow is slightly better than no eyebrows at all, but not much better. Seriously the only people that should have no eyebrows are people with a disease, disorder, or as a reaction to medicine.

5 Fashions Mistakes Guys Make

OK, so I was thinking more or less about why people do certain things, and I came up with this:

5 things men should NEVER wear!

5)Dress shirts with swim trunks- Pretty much self explanatory! Just don't do it. You look like you are going to a redneck wedding! Seriously, there is no need to be wearing it!

4)Work shirts in places that AREN'T work!- OK, no one wants to see your holey, bleach stained work clothes when you are supposed to be presentable in public. Dress to impress, not distress!

3)Tube socks with mandals- First, mandals = man sandals, sandals are meant for sand! Enough said, really.

2)Shorts above the knee- No one wants to see your knobby knees. No one wants to see your hairy legs above your knobby knees. Leave the short shorts to the women with the killer, hairless legs!

1)The half beard- Seriously, if you can't grow a full beard, then shave it off! I get on my hubby for this ALL the time! It looks bad, really bad! It really looks like you took the hair trimming off the floor of the salon and glued them to your face after you got your head trimmed! It's just gross, don't do it!

OK, so if you see a man making these big fashion no-no's then tell him! Better let him know now, instead of having to deal with it for life! (I'm stuck with the second, and it BUGS me to no end!)

Going back to school

I have decided that the best thing for me and my family is for me to go back to school! I really enjoyed all the people that I went to school with! I need to reintegrate myself into the school setting and get back into the game. I plan on going to school for Cosmetology! I have become so engrossed lately into makeup, hairstyles, and nail art, that I figure this is the best thing for me. I already cut my kids and hubby's hair, why not make a career out of something that I enjoy doing?

I love the feel of scissors in my hand, the squeak of the spray bottle and the sound of the hair dryer. I know I'm crazy, but I enjoy the small talk that cosmetologists get to share with their clients, the constant flow of people coming in and out, and seeing fresh faces every day! This is what I crave in a job, this is what I crave in my life. I crave the unusual, the exciting, the demanding, and most of all, the people! I can't wait to start classes and see how much I can take in!

Ok, so I decided that I was going to add some stuff to the prizes I will be sending out! I'm adding a fingernail polish, an eyeshadow palette and some clear lip gloss. I will be sending out my prizes from my contest/giveaway, YAY! There will be something a little special in each packaged from me! I hope that you enjoy all of your things. I split it up as evenly as possible, and I think I might make a trip to the store and throw in a Jordache quad in each one! I dunno yet! I have to find out if they have anymore first! Trust me, you will love those Jordache quads. They are AWESOME! Again, I will be sending them out, most likely on Friday. I just did a contest entry for PagePapagei on YouTube, let me tell you what. I look like SeaWorld threw up on my face.... aaaah well, that's OK! I really enjoyed being a goof earlier and I might just put all the pics that I took from the 2, yes 2 looks that I did today. ... well yesterday, because it's now after midnight here! So anywho, yeah ... stay tuned and I might be doing another contest when I hit 50 subscribers, so if you have friends who like goofy people and wanna see what SeaWorld looks like on someones face... then tell them to subscribe! DIY Makeup Storage

Alrighty!

So today I finally got to put up my DIY Makeup storage video on YouTube! I'm really loving this! I was even told by my hubby that it looked really good! That's a HUGE compliment for me! It's in live/slideshow format, so you have to deal with the shakiness at the beginning, but then it gets better. There is a list of everything needed in the video and there is also "Step by step instructions" there, too. Although I would much rather want to call them something along the line of, "Hey, this is what I did, try and follow along!"

Hey! Just thaught I would start by telling you a little bit about myself. I'm really going to be using this blog to keep updates on my YouTube videos and basically is for my subscribers to learn more about what I do and why.

Where do I live?

I live in NY with my family. I'd prefer to keep the exact location of where I live private for my family's sake. Please respect this.

What do I do for a living?

Right now, I'm in the process of publishing my first children's book. I'm also a stay at home mom, because it's cheaper for us that way. If you would like to know more about my book, then you can always ask!

What do I do YouTube videos on?

Well, right now I have several videos on makeup. I'm hoping to branch out, and do more than just makeup videos. I also have a couple of cooking videos and I am currently working on some home remedy videos and some DIY videos. I would love to know what else you would love to see, so please, don't hesitate to let me know what you would like to see!

What are my favorite hobbies?

Well, I really like to know a little about a lot of things! If it sparks my interest, then you can bet that I will probably do it for a little while, then I will most likely get bored!
